เลโอนิด พาดรูว์เกิดในประเทศยูเครน และอพยพมายังอิสราเอลเมื่อปีพ.ศ. 2537 ปัจจุบันดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นหัวหน้าแผนกภาพถ่ายของพิพิธภัณฑ์เอเรตซ์ อิสราเอล ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในพิพิธภัณฑ์โบราณคดีศึกษาที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในอิสราเอล
พาดรูว์ได้จัดแสดงนิทรรศการผลงานภาพถ่ายของตัวเองมาแล้วทั่วโลกและได้รับรางวัลต่างๆ จำนวนมาก รวมทั้งเกียรติคุณจากสมาพันธ์ศิลปะการถ่ายภาพนานาชาติ (E-FIAP) พาดรูว์ได้เข้าร่วมโครงการภาพถ่ายโบราณคดีศึกษาและสำรวจถ้ำคุมรานกับนิตยสารเนชันแนล จีโอกราฟฟิค โดยผลงานของเขาได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศ การเดินทางสำรวจสถานที่ซึ่งมีความงดงามและความสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ครั้งนี้เองที่เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นให้พาดรูว์หันมาสนใจภูมิทัศน์ในแถบทะเลสาบเดดซี
ในช่วงเริ่มต้นของอาชีพการเป็นช่างภาพ พาดรูว์ให้ความสนใจเป็นพิเศษกับการถ่ายภาพทิวทัศน์ซึ่งเป็นสาขาการถ่ายภาพที่นับว่ามีความซับซ้อนและท้าทาย ด้วยมนต์เสน่ห์ของภูมิประเทศแถบนี้ ประกอบกับสายตาของศิลปินที่เฉียบคมและเต็มไปด้วยอารมณ์ จึงก่อให้เกิดผลงานภาพถ่ายที่สะท้อนถึงทัศนียภาพอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ และถึงพร้อมไปด้วยองค์ประกอบศิลปะที่มีรูปทรงสามมิติ การเล่นแสงและเงา รวมทั้งความสามารถของภาพในการสะกดผู้ชม
“Light and Shadow of Judean Desert”

An exhibition of works by art photographer Leonid Padrul entitled “The Shadow of Jerusalem” portrays the uniqueness of Israel with a magical magnetic power. Padrul’s work is characterized by a special interest in landscape from a personal point of view. His works testify to the artist’s capabilities – his photographs bear witness to his exceptional, yet universal, observation of nature.
All of Leonid Padrul’s photographs included in this exhibit were created without any computer manipulation. Every photograph is unique in the Biblical story it tells about the conflicts, the urges and the searching for eternal values. Jerusalem in the Bible is always associated with light. Israelis say “to rise to Jerusalem,” which means not only the city’s mountain location but also ascension in a spiritual dimension.
In contrary, the Dead Sea which in ancient times was named Sodom and the Asphalt Sea and the Sea of Lot, is located in a deep depression about 400 meters below sea level, the lowest place on the Earth. In Kabbala writings, the area of the Dead Sea is called “The Shadow of Jerusalem”.
Having conquered mountain peaks, Padrul conjures before our eyes dazzling phenomena of nature. In his pastoral-like photographs, unfolding the age old secrets of creation, Padrul achieves the apex of his work, combining poetry with a philosophical world view.

Leonid Padrul
Leonid Padrul was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to Israel in 1994. He heads the Department of Photography at the Eretz Israel Museum, one of the biggest archaeological museums in Israel.
Padrul participated in numerous exhibitions worldwide and has won international recognition and prestigious awards, among them a distinction of Excellence awarded by the International Federation of Photographic Art (E-FIAP). Padrul worked with the National Geographic Magazine, participating in archeological projects of studying Qumran caves. His photographs were awarded first prize in the project competition. During this expedition, he became fascinated by the Dead Sea area.
From an early age, Padrul took a special interest in landscape photography, one of the most complex genres. The charisma of these landscapes, blended with emotion and well-developed artistic sensibilities, create unique vistas which also echo the inherent foundations of the plastic arts: composition, a play of light and shadow, perspective and the ability to capture the viewer.
